Management & Team

The Center for Smart Drug Design (SDD) brings together researchers from a uniquely diverse network of institutions and disciplines with a shared mission: to accelerate the discovery and development of innovative therapies for complex diseases. By combining expertise in chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacy, bioinformatics, imaging, nanotechnology, structural biology, and systems medicine, the center creates an interdisciplinary environment in which scientific breakthroughs can be translated into real-world medical solutions.

SDD unites scientists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the TUM University Hospital, and Helmholtz Munich, while also closely integrating expertise from several leading TUM research centers. These include the Center for Protein Assemblies (CPA), the Bavarian NMR Center (BNMRZ), the Center for Organoid Systems (COS), the Munich Institute of Biomedical Engineering (MIBE), and the Center for Translational Cancer Research (TranslaTUM). Together, these institutions contribute complementary strengths rangingfrom molecular and structural analysis to organoid technologies, cancer research, bioengineering, and translational medicine.
