Central Institutes & Facilities

The success of smartdrugs@TUM is supported by a unique network of cutting-edge research facilities that provide expertise and technologies across the entire drug discovery and development pipeline. The Center for Protein Assemblies (CPA) enables the investigation of protein structure, function, and interactions, providing key insights into molecular mechanisms relevant for therapeutic discovery. TranslaTUM (Central Institute for Translational Cancer Research) strengthens the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical applications by connecting basic research with patient-oriented cancer research. The Bavarian NMR Center (BNMRZ) offers state-of-the-art nuclear magnetic resonance technologies for structural biology, molecular characterization, and drug-target interaction studies. Complementing these capabilities, the Center for Organoid Systems (COS) develops advanced human organoid models that improve the predictability of drug efficacy and safety and support personalized medicine approaches. Together, these facilities provide the technological foundation that enables smartdrugs@TUM to advance innovative therapies from fundamental discovery to clinical translation.
